Investment SolarDuck

SolarDuck believes that the the solution to land scarcity can be found in offshore floating solar. They use state-of-the-art technology and creative innovations to achieve high durability and a long life-span, as well as easy maintenance. SolarDuck's solution is fully scaleable, can be transported in containers. Units are then easily assembled and installed locally. gigaRE is proud to announce an investment in SolarDuck.

The Challenge

With the need to get to net zero, and many countries committing to goals of carbon neutrality, the solar market is expected to grow by factor 65 and deliver 20.000GW by 2050. However, increasing land prices and scarcity around the globe pose a serious threat to this shift. Because conventional solar simply doesn't work everywhere, the people at SolarDuck set out to complement onshore with offshore solar solutions. Being easier said than done, this venture came with it's own challenges:

  • Resistance to wave and wind

  • Lifetime fatigue and corrosion

  • Salt and Bird cleaning

  • Access and Safety

The Solution

Through extremely robust design with durable materials and countless innovative ideas such as the rigid triangular design, SolarDuck has managed to created a product that can resists high waves, is hurricane proof and has a life span of over 30 years.

A rigid triangular structure allow the floating panels easily resist multi directional waves. Combined with the use off offshore grade aluminum, this makes for a solution that can best the harsh conditions of offshore environments.

Make it stand out

An efficient mooring layout and durable electric system optimize the costs of scaling and performance.

Access, Safety & Maintenance

Walkways including a security fence make the panels accessible and safe for maintenance, while coupling of units enables easy access between platforms.

10-degree tilt of panels allows for self-cleaning

Environmental impact

To ensure marine life safety, the elevated nature of SolarDuck's platform and the open grid structure lets through plenty of airflow and sunlight, to minimize the solar farm's impact on the environment.

We highly recommend a visit to SolarDuck's website for a lot more information, and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this bright company.
